Are You Using a Colored Washcloth?

I've recently done a study on the Apostle Barnabus and realized so many great qualities about this man the apostles called "The Son of Encouragement". Though I learned much about this man of God, I was left asking one question... "What would have happened to Mark if he had no Barnabus?". Many of you may be familiar with the story of Paul and Barnabus. Two great men of God who were known throughout the New Testament for many great works but primarily for preaching the word of God to the Gentiles (the non-Jews). They were known for being the "Light to the Gentiles" because they journeyed throughout the land preaching Jesus, our risen Savior and brining salvation to many. At one point Mark (Barnabus's cousin) joined them in their journey for a while. He eventually left them and went back to his homeland but later tried to rejoin them as they prepared for another journey.
Paul did not want Barnabus to join them after having left them once before, but Barnabus insisted that Mark accompany them. The two apostles disagreed and parted company; Paul went on his way taking Silas while Barnabus went back to his home and took Mark with him. Sometime later they all reconciled, and Paul encouraged the people to accept Mark as he had become useful to him in ministry. It's a wonderful story but it did make me think, as I pray it does the same for you. Do you have a Mark in your midst? Is there someone you believed in, trusted even, that has disappointed you, turned their back on you or did not handle you as you thought they should have? How do you handle that individual? Then I want you to ask yourself... "How does Jesus handle me when I disappoint Him?".
Proverbs 16:2 says,
"All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the LORD.". NIV
In this instance, I am so grateful for the Barnabus's in my life. I understand that though I may see myself as being pure, we all are in need of forgiveness, and we all are in desperate need of our Lord Jesus. I can truly say that it's only because someone did not give up on me, prayed for me and labored for me that I am able to encourage, pray for and labor with those that cross my path today. So, if you are one that's been fooled because you only use a colored washcloth; I encourage you to use a white washcloth from time to time. Then you will be able to see that you're just as dirty as the Marks you want to leave behind. So, I encourage you today, just as Jesus has been patient and longsuffering with you, who are we not to be patient with one another. In this life, we ALL need a Barnabus!
